Location

Located in the state of Uttaranchal, Mussoorie is about 34 kilometres north of Dehradun, the capital of Uttarachal. Mussoorie offers beautiful views of the snow capped Himalayan peaks on the one side and Doon valley on the other.

History

Mussoorie is one of the oldest hill stations established by the Britishers. An adventure lover army officer Captain Young discovered the hill station in 1827.

Gun Hill
Gun Hill, the second highest peak in Mussoorie is a wonderful destination, which is preferred by many a honeymooner. The adventurous way to access the Hill is through a rope way (cable car). Gun Hill is the place where once cannons were kept for the defense of Mussoorie. The Hill offers panoramic views of the snow-capped Himalayas.

Camel's Back Road
It is a mesmerizing road surrounded by lush green vegetation. It is the best place for nature walks.

St. Mary's Church
It is the oldest Church in the Himalayas.

Kempty Falls
Kempty Falls is a famous tourist attraction located only 15 km from Mussoorie. Surrounded by hills, the Falls offer amazing views. The waters cascades down from an altitude of 4,500 feet. The Falls is open to visitors from March to July. The environment here is very romantic.

Lake Mist
Lake Mist is a popular picnic spot located at a distance of 5 km from the Kempty Falls. The site also offers many accommodation options and restaurants.

It is also a picnic spot housing a beautiful garden and an artificial lake where visitors can also enjoy a boat ride.

Mussoorie Lake

Children Lodge

Sir George Everest Home

Location
Varkala is a town in the Indian state of Kerala, about 50km north of Trivandrum and is home of the popular Papanasam Beach. Also, the Samadhi of Kerala's saint Sree Narayana Guru is situated in this town and hence has become a place of pilgrimage.

How to Reach
By car
Varkala is linked by state and national highways to all the major cities in Kerala, Tamilnadu and Karnataka.

The nearest International Airport is Trivandrum.

Introduction
The beach makes a good choice for those willing to escape from their hectic work schedule and spend a few days in perfect relaxation. Varkala beach in Kerala includes a wealth of attractions for the tourists to explore. Located close to the beach, there is a mineral spring with medicinal properties. In fact, people across the globe consider this to be sacred and come here to drink and bathe in the same. Also referred to as Papanasam Beach, it is also believed that by taking a bath here, one can get rid of his/her sins. The difference between the sea, sand and cliffs adds to the striking sight of the beach. Beach lovers with an eye for scenic beauty cannot help but praise the breathtaking view of the sun sinking into the sky similar to that of a ball of molten gold.

Besides being a tourist hub, it also makes a great pilgrimage destination. The formerly mentioned Sree Janardhana Swamy Temple is dedicated to Lord Ayyappa and is frequently visited by devotees round the year. Millions of devotees make it a point to plan there visit here and offer 'Vavu Bali', to show respect to their near and dear one who have left for the heavenly abode.

It is 2000 years old. Varkala has been a Hindu pilgrimage site since the 12th Century. The Janardhana Temple was built during this period and many Hindu's still visit Varkala to this day, for this very reason. The Varkala sands has become an ideal spot for confluence of cultures exotic and alien. Varkala also houses a leading pilgrim centre in Kerala. The temple, dedicated to Vishnu and Hanuman, atop the hill has brought a sobriquet for the region, Southern Kasi (Benares). Non-Hindus are not permitted to enter the inner sanctum but can hang around the temple.

Sivagiri. Sree Narayana Guru (1855-1928), saint, social reformer, philosopher and leader of Ezhava community, made Varkala his headquarters. Sivagiri mutt, instituted by Sree Narayana Guru, is another major pilgrim centre here.

Location
Marayoor is the only place in Kerala with natural sandalwood forests and is located in the Idukki District in the state of Kerala in India. Marayoor is located at about 42 kilometers north of Munnar while you drive through Udumalpet to go to Munnar. The name Marayoor is said to have derived from the word ‘mara’ which means hide in both malayalam and Tamil, then ‘Ooru’, a village, that is, meaning, an hidden village.

By road: Marayoor is 40 km from Munnar and 55 km from Idukki.National Highway NH 49 passes through Idukki district.
By Rail :Nearest railway station: Aluva railhead, which is 120 km away. Ernakulam railhead is 173 km away.

Access

Be there during the months of July- September and you will find yourself surrounded by thousands of pink flamingoes doing their mating dance at the Pimpalgaon Joga Dam, a long bund located 4 km from the Flamingo Hill resort and 2-3 km from Khireshwar. Drive a bit further from Khireshwar village and you will find yourself at the base of the 4,671 ft Harishchandragad Mountain. Trek uphill (if you are brave enough) for a wonderful view of the Harishchandra, Rohidas and Taramati peaks and the majestic horseshoe shaped Konkan Kada valley. Also on the top is the Harishchandragad Fort, a huge plateau and the 11th century Harishchandreshwar Mandir dedicated to Shiva, Vithoba, Rakhumani and Ganesh. When at the top find and follow the nearby Mangalganaga Stream and you will come across the Kedareshwar Cave where you can pay your respects to a huge shivling surrounded by a pool of icy cold water.



Malshej ghat is situated in Pune district near the borders of Thane and Ahmednagar districts. It is at a distance of 154 km from south Mumbai towards northeast and 130 km north of Pune. The nearest railhead is Kalyan near Mumbai. To go to Malshej ghat by road from Mumbai, take NH3 to Bhiwandi and turn towards Murbad or take state highway via Kalyan, Murbad, Saralgaon and Vaishakhare to reach the ghat. To go to Malshej ghat from Pune, take NH50 (Pune-Nasik highway), turn left at Narayangaon and pass through Junar. State Transport buses are cheaper and available from Kalyan, Karjat and Pune at regular intervals.

Shivneri fort, where Shivaji was born, is 40 km from Malshej ghat.
Not far from the fort is Nane Ghat that offers lovely views of the Konkan Plateau and the Jivdhan Fort which is famous for trekking.
A few kilometers from Malshej Ghat are the Asthavinayak temples of Ozar and Lenyadri (35 km) and Bhimashankar - an ancient pilgrim center famous for the Jyotirlinga of Shiva.
Note: Landslides are frequent during the monsoons so be careful while driving. Otur, 36 km and Murbad 50 km away are the nearest towns where one can get some medical aid and public telephones.

About the Temple
Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple  is currently run by a trust headed by the royal family of Travancore located in Thiruvananthapuram, India.The principal deity, Padmanabhaswamy, is enshrined in the "Anantha-sayanam" posture (in the eternal sleep of Yoga-nidra on the serpent Ananta).The Travancore Kings regarded themselves as ‘Padmanabha-dasa’ (Servant of Lord Padmanabha).

Location
Padmanabhaswamy temple is a famous Hindu temple of Lord Vishnu, located inside the Fort in city of Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. The temple is one of the 108 divya desam, the holiest abodes of Lord Vishnu. The main deity, Padmanabhaswamy, is a form of Vishnu in Anananthasayanam posture. This is an ancient temple and the city of Thiruvananthapuram derives its name from the name of the presiding deity enshrined in the temple.

The Moolavar, Anantha Padmanabhar who is found in Kidantha (Palli Kondulla) kolam is said to be one of the speciality of this sthalam. A Shiva Lingam is found close to the Thirumugham of the Moolavar, which explains to the world that both Hari and Haran are not two different and separate Gods, but they are a Single and should be worshipped as one.

Mythology

Padmanabhaswamy Temple stands at a place considered as one of the seven Parasurama Kshetras; texts including the Puranas, particularly the Skanda Purana and Padma Purana, have references for this shrine. Tradition states that in this place, the Hindu deity Lord Vishnu gave darshan to Indian sages like Divakarmuni and Vilvamangalam Swami. Another story tells of a pulaya couple seeing Vishnu in the form of a child. The child took morsels of rice from the hands of the couple. Also it is believed that Divakaramuni, when he saw the deity he took the first food item he saw which was an Unripe Mango and a coconut shell as an offering plate and performed primary pooja. In memory of this legend, naivedyam or offering prepared from rice is offered to the deity here in a coconut shell.

Darshan Times & Dress Code


Darshan times are (before noon) 3.30-4.45, 6.30-7.00, 8.30-10.00, 10.30-11.00, 11.45-12.00; (after noon) 5.00-6.15 and 6.45-7.20. Only Hindus are permitted inside the temple. Devotees have to strictly follow the dress code. Men should remove clothes above waist and deposit in the locker room. No one is permitted to wear dress that displays both legs separately. This means no pants for men or churidhar for women. Dhotis can be borrowed at the locker room for Rs. 15. Dhotis can be worn over pants or churidhar. No cell phones or cameras are permitted inside the temple. Cell phones must be deposited in the locker room after taking it out of the bag for Rs. 15 a piece. Hand bags are permitted inside.

Main Festival

The biggest festival in this temple is laksha deepam, which means hundred thousand (or one lakh) lamps. This festival is unique and commences once in 6 years. Prior to this festival, chanting of prayers and recitation of three vedas is done for 56 days. On the festival time, hundred thousand oil lamps are lit in and around the temple premises. The next laksha deepam is slated on January 2014

Dilli Haat is a shoppers paradise. A joint collaboration between the New Delhi Municipal Corporation and the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Department, the basic idea of setting up this crafts bazaar was to promote the Indian handicrafts industry and Indian cuisine.
The word haat denotes an informal weekly market or bazaar that is held in the rural areas of India.


Location
It is located in the heart of Delhi, one near the All India Institute of Medical Sciences on Sri Aurobindo Marg, opposite INA Market on Sri Aurobindo Marg, and another at Netaji Subash Place, adjacent to Netaji Subash Place Metro Station.

Cost of ticket is Rs.15/- for adult and Rs.5/- for child.

Main Attraction & Significance




There are as many as 62 stalls located within the complex. Craftsmen from different corners of India come over here to showcase their products. The products are reasonably priced. The shops and stalls are allotted to the sellers for 15 days and is then rotated so that other sellers get an opportunity to exhibit and sell their products.


The different kinds of items that are sold in the Dilli Haat in Delhi include footwear made from camel skin, brassware, sandalwood and rosewood carvings, handloom items, woolen and silk items, draperies, articles made from stone, ornaments and others. Every product is unique and is a fine example of the skills of the Indian craftsmen.
Apart from these, there are several stalls where you can get to savor Indian food. The Dilli Haat has a food plaza where you can get to taste the culinary delights from the different parts of India. Food festivals are often held over here also from time to time.
Dilli Haat at Delhi can be considered as an upgraded version of the traditional village market. Where on one hand it gives an exposure to the artisans of the country, on the other hand it gives a clear picture of Indian art and culture.
